Is the modern world heading towards an apocalypse?
In times of division and in a society where no one is on anyone else’s side, somehow everyone agrees on one thing – the modern world is heading toward total ruin. But this is just another public delusion.
The world is just fine. Yes, it has its problems. It suffers from wars, famine, and disease. On a massive scale, countries are ruled by people who are unbalanced and obsessed with power. Dangerous ideologies are spreading among the young. People are confused and don’t know which is the right path in life. All of this is true. And it could be said of every era in human history. And yet, here we are.
At every stage of its development, humanity has been prone to believe that things are going downhill and that the future is bleak. But nowadays, for the first time, we have the tools to spread this idea. The media, social media, influencers. It’s being proclaimed from every corner that things aren’t going well, and whether through nuclear war, artificial intelligence, or a loss of values, humanity is headed toward its own demise.
But actually this is an expression of our inability to accept reality. Modern people expect to exist in a sterile, problem-free environment, and anything else drives them into a state of inner hysteria, which they then project onto others. But if we wait for things to be perfect, we will never be happy. Life coexists with death. Peace of mind is achieved despite the presence of problems. The world continues to move forward and upward regardless of its momentary setbacks.
Wanting to make the world a better place is a wonderful initiative, but to achieve it, we must believe in its beauty. We are not doomed; we do not need an outside savior; and the apocalypse is not knocking at our door. Everything is fine, just as it has always been. The universe continues to be our home, and we continue to discover ourselves, even when we lose our way for a decade or two. And the only real danger of humanity coming to a miserable end lies in people’s belief that it will happen.
Do we live in a perfect world? No. But we live in a perfect world. And that’s what matters most.
