Messages and Meaning
Resident Evil (2026) has a clear perspective and remains consistent throughout. This is a movie for fans of the games. Resident Evil (2026) doesn’t try to copy scenes from the games or introduce characters from them. Its focus is on recreating the atmosphere of this world – on giving us a sense of what it’s like to be an ordinary person who happened to be in Raccoon City at the wrong time. And of all the films so far, it’s definitely the most successful in this regard.
The film explores themes of family, children, and change. The protagonist is expecting a child with his girlfriend – a child he isn’t sure he wants – and it is precisely a zombie child who infects him with the virus; one of the most sinister rooms in the film is the delivery room.
The story revolves around how an ordinary, kind-hearted person feels when he finds himself in an extreme situation and has to fight for his life.
The ending is both depressing and clever, showing that the main problem in our society will always be the lack of communication between people.
Plot
The plot focuses on the protagonist’s trials and tribulations and his struggle for survival. The story moves from location to location, wrapping up each arena before moving on to the next, accurately recreating the feel of the games.
The tension is sustained and skillfully blended with excellent comedy that remains top-notch right up to the very end.
Characters
The characters are wonderful, and everyone—from the receptionist to the boss—has their own reason for being there and adds a pleasant touch to the atmosphere.
Bryan – Bryan is wonderful. He shows us how an ordinary person would cope with the stress of a zombie apocalypse. His endearing awkwardness is skillfully combined with his tenacity and will to survive, instantly turning him into a charming character who’s easy to root for.
Important details
It’s really impressive that a modern movie manages to have genuinely unexpected scary moments.
The film pays close attention to details like spray cans, cars, and ammunition from the game, rounding out the world to perfection.
The first female zombie is a comedic genius and the second-best character in the film.
