Messages and Meaning
Spider-Man: Brand New Day succeeds in exploring meaningful themes and timely issues.
The film focuses on how self-isolation can lead to self-destruction, even when done with good intentions. Even though the hero is connected to humanity, building individual relationships with other people is what can save him and help him move forward.
The need for change is also well portrayed. Sometimes we don’t want change to happen because it’s scary and painful. But in the end, it turns out to be exactly what we needed all along.
Plot
The plot focuses more on character development and exploring Spider-Man’s emotional world than on action. This is quite unusual for a film of this kind and deserves credit in and of itself. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is heavily tailored to the audience’s tastes and offers many scenes that were either directly requested by fans or are exactly what they’ll enjoy.
The story has a classic structure and is well-crafted, with attention to detail, enjoyable twists, and a satisfying resolution.
Characters
The characters evolve, and no one stays where they started.
Peter – Peter manages to accept himself and the consequences of his actions. He emerges from the darkness of loneliness and embraces his natural powers, realizing that he doesn’t need technology to be Spider-Man.
MJ – Surprisingly, this might be MJ’s best film yet. Although she doesn’t remember Peter, she finds her place in the film with charm, courage, and strength of spirit.
Jean Grey – A wonderful villain driven by her traumas. Jean is not only a legendary hero from the X-Men universe, but she also proves to us that the individual always trumps the system. Jean manages to overcome her pain and find the right path to herself by connecting with another human being.
Important details
The return to natural spiderwebs is a wonderful idea that’s been executed well.
Yelena is wonderful and is clearly appearing at the special invitation of the fans, and her bathroom is an additional lovely detail.
The film manages to find not one, but two ways to get Tom Holland to take his clothes off in a way that feels appropriate for the plot, which is commendable.
