“Brunch for Beginners” – a charming mockery of modern society

Category: Good

Messages and Meaning

Brunch for Beginners is a film that offers a humorous look at modern trends in Western society. From artificial intelligence to pseudo-spiritual people and veganism, Brunch for Beginners manages to poke fun at the pretensions that are an integral part of our daily lives.

The story successfully reinforces the idea that falsehood can thrive in all circumstances, and that everything is fine as long as it is done in moderation and with clear awareness.

And unlike most Bulgarian films, teenagers are also shown in a positive light here. We can clearly see that they are angry and depressed not just because they are at that age, but because they are looking for something real in the adult world, where everything is false. And it is the children who decide to bring the truth to light.

Plot

The plot follows the classic American structure point by point, but does so in a way that is obvious enough to make it clear that this is a desired effect. And although it suffers from some weaknesses in the climax and denouement, the overall feeling is pleasant. The idea of having the action take place only in the house is good and creates the right atmosphere.

Only the ending is a little strange, because on the one hand it is happy for our heroes, but on the other hand it realizes the artificial intelligence that the film mocks.

Characters

The characters perfectly represent their archetypes, and the relationships between them provide a good basis for comical situations.

Zhanna and Krum – Good representatives of the typical modern family trying to balance values and the desire for social status.

Rosena and Presiyan – Excellent portrayal of modern clergymen and psychologists whose connection with reality is completely lost. Both individually and as a couple, they provided ample opportunity for laughter, but at times also for sympathy.

Maycheto – From Maya, just so there’s no confusion. Definitely the star of the film, without whom nothing would have been the same. Maycheto was wonderful and provoked hysterical, joyful laughter every second she was on screen.

Important details
  • The joke with the stuttering security guard is definitely risky, but Stoyan Doichev managed to take it far enough to enter the realm of the absurd and be funny.
  • Philip Bukov as a sexy firefighter who is a idiotic child was definitely a good decision and one of the funniest scenes.
  • Visually, the film works very well with the interior, costumes, and colors.
