How Can I Become More Self-Aware?
Observe yourself from the outside. Would I be okay with this behavior? Analyze yourself objectively. Accept both your strengths and your flaws. Everything becomes better once it is brought into awareness.
To become more self-aware, you must learn to observe yourself as if you were someone else.
Analyze your own behavior from an outside perspective so that you can understand how you act, how you position yourself in different environments, and why you provoke certain reactions in other people.
Self-awareness is directly connected to one simple question:
Why? Why did I react that way? Why do I feel like this? Why do I always end up in the same situation? Why do I consider this right or wrong?
To be self-aware, you must be able to have honest conversations with yourself. Both your strengths and your weaknesses should be acknowledged without excuses or self-deception. Simply becoming aware of who we are already makes us better. Saying “I get angry easily” is always more productive than saying “People make me angry.”
Every flaw in your personality becomes manageable once it is recognized and named accurately. Likewise, every strength has the opportunity to grow once it has been discovered and accepted.
When we receive criticism from others, it is natural to become defensive. But when we are alone with ourselves, we should reflect on what happened, understand our reactions, get to know ourselves better, and avoid repeating the same mistakes in the future.
