Even 25 years after its creation, Titanic is one of the most beloved films. As well as one of the most underrated, but we won’t dwell on that here. We’re now going to talk about beauty and grandeur.

The reason this film resonates so much with people is that the Titanic’s destiny is a scaled down version of the essence of humanity. Humans will build the most beautiful ship in the world with vision and labor, then pathetic ambitions for glory will lead to its destruction, but then the orchestra will play to the end. This describes humanity in all its great endeavors.

The Titanic is a symbol of beauty, and one that is created by the human mind and the human hand. Everything about it from the opening of the doors speaks of love and light. The film is shot in such a way that in every frame the camera seems to caress the ship and express its admiration for it. Such a ship cannot help but become the home of the overman.

Amidst this universal love between the creations of nature and man, it is only natural that there should be another love between two human beings. These are Jack and Rose. Their story of choice, bravery and devotion is beautifully intertwined with that of the ship. Jack is the free spirit, untouched by any blow of material and social reality. He understands freedom in its truest essence and knows how to ignite it in the souls of others. Rose is a fire-breathing flower that is watered with the tears of coercion but grows under the rays of rebellion. She shows courage and strength as she transitions from almost throwing herself into the ocean to jumping the other way to the ship and real life.

No less perfect are many other passengers on the ship. Besides the quartet, such are Thomas Andrews, who created this great work of art and chose to go down with it, Molly Brown, whose sense of rightness made her unsinkable, the captain, who had the conscience to realize his mistakes, and Murdoch, who, after a momentary fall, returned to his honor. And also the gentleman who decided to keep his class instead of putting on a life jacket, the mother who watched over her children to the last and the elderly couple who stayed cuddled in bed.

All the stories in Titanic are about the essence of man – a wasteland where cruelty, fear and vanity sometimes run rampant like wild beasts, but where valor, passion and love between people always raise their heads. Titanic is love, and so is humanity.
