How can I know what I really want?
The first important step is understanding the difference between what we want today and what we want from life as a whole.
Today we may want chocolate, an afternoon nap, or to run freely through a field. These are temporary desires that dominate us in the moment before quickly giving way to new ones.
Our dreams are different.
Building a loving family. Creating a meaningful career. Overcoming our fears. Embarking on the journey we’ve always imagined.
Our everyday desires often conflict with our life’s deepest dreams.
If we dream of security but choose entertainment every single day, we will never reach the future we long for.
Likewise, if we dream of an adventurous life but constantly remain inside our comfort zone, we’ll never arrive where we truly want to go.
Everyone wants to be happy, but what happiness actually means is something each person must define for themselves.
To distinguish our deepest desires from passing impulses, we must trust our hearts.
The mind is concerned with what is possible. It calculates the cost, the risks, and the consequences.
The heart cares about none of those things.
It already knows what it truly wants.
And where the heart speaks, there is no room for compromise.
