Slay Cinema: Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma – except there’s no sex, no death, and Camp Miasma isn’t really even there

Messages and Meaning

“Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma” definitely believes it has messages and meaning. But unfortunately, the reality is quite different. The film attempts to analyze themes such as female sexuality and how sexual energy is tied to the archetypes of the victim and the abuser. But… it goes nowhere. If you’re going to make a film that relies on atmosphere and ideas, you need perfect dialogue and excellent cinematography. Two things that were missing. The film desperately tries to be interesting, resorting to cheap provocations with meaningless sex scenes and gory sequences, but as a result, the rest of the time it’s slow and boring.

Plot

The plot is brilliant in its ability to fill two hours of screen time with absolutely nothing. The story has neither a beginning nor an end, and somehow the middle is missing, too. Two women stand in a house; sometimes they talk, other times they don’t, and neither of them knows why she’s talking or why she’s in the house in the first place. A killer who is neither human nor a ghost, who neither kills anyone nor plays a role. His only function is to be a walking square head and to breathe heavily while two lesbians have sex, because their lifelong dream is… for a man to pierce them with his spear?!? Meaning… who needs it.

Characters

The characters are a disaster. They’re definitely not stereotypical, but that’s because they don’t have enough personality to even qualify as stereotypes, and discussing them individually is pointless. One is young, the other not so much. Both are crazy. Neither has anything to offer the world.

Important details

The filmmakers are trying to create a movie within a movie, but is it a good idea to watch not one, but two boring movies at the same time?

The film clearly aims to blur the lines between reality and imagination. But this raises two questions. Imagination. Where? Reality. Where?

The only decent moments in the film are the murders, because they’re so absurdly over-the-top that they manage to be entertaining.
